Scroll down to begin this Q & A report…
What is a backlink?
A backlink is simply a link on another website that links to
yours.
The more high quality links linking to your website, the more
important the search engines will view your website and will
then rank your site higher in the search engines.
This is how you get free website traffic with backlinks and
SEO.
How will backlinks help my rankings
on the search engines?
There’s a “secret” that’s not very secret at all, in fact it’s just
that many don’t know how SEO works.
That “secret” is backlinks.
It breaks down like this:
The search engines basically work like a voting contest. Do
you know how a voting contest works?
Picture a contest like this (and get a kick out of this one)…
The judges of a contest will elect the first prize winner to
whoever “likes” someone the most.
If you have 10 people (backlinks) that like one person, but
then you have 20 people (backlinks) that like another, guess
who’s going to win?
You’d probably say the person who has 20 people
(backlinks) liking him right?
Well, it depends.
The person who has 10 people (backlinks) liking him has a
few friends as the judges so, naturally they elect him and he
wins. And the person who has 20 people (backlinks) liking
him loses and gets upset.
But that’s unfair right?
Not really. The person who has 10 people (backlinks) liking
him got to know the judges before the contest even started.
So he still won just by having 10 people (backlinks) like him.
That’s kind of how search engines like Google work.
You can be “friends” with Google by having what’s called
“on-page” and “off-page” SEO with a few relevant keywords
on your website content and with a few people liking you (or
backlinks linking to you).
Or you can win by having 50 people (backlinks) like you
instead of the 20, and you’ll win by the over-flooded
majority.

You can do little tweaks to your website like changing
certain words for an even higher and quicker ranking for
your keywords.
If you just keep building high quality backlinks to your site
you will come out on top.
How fast will I see results?
I get asked this question all the time and the answer is… it
depends on your competition!
Not only that, but there’s this mysterious thing called the
“Google Dance” which will also determine how fast you see
results.
You can do a search for “Google Dance” to conduct your
own research but it basically works like this:
Pretend for a moment that search engines are like one huge
spider web with one spider going back and forth on the
entire web.
Whenever new content is published on the spider web, the
spider, reacting to its instincts, runs over to the new content
and determines how it should let the world know about it.

http://www.ebook-store.eu/
What the spider is looking for are keywords and how
important that website is by looking at how many quality
backlinks it has linked to it.
The more quality backlinks your website has and depending
on the keywords the spider finds will determine which
keywords you will rank for on the search engines.
In my experience I’ve seen this work in as little as a few
days, while other times it has taken several weeks to a
month or two to see any results for certain keywords that
were more competitive.
Have faith in the process and keep building your backlinks
and you will see the results you desire.
On a side note, you don’t have to have the keywords in your
website content at all to rank for certain keywords.
Did you catch that? Read that part again.
I did an experiment with a few of my backlinks and I got
ranked on the FIRST PAGE for the keyword “unlimited
backlinks”.
You can check this yourself.
None of the content on that website has the word
“unlimited” at all, yet I’m still ranked on the first page for
that keyword.
How did I do this?
© 2010 ALL RIGHTS RESERVED
http://www.ebook-store.eu/
All I did was simply build anchor text backlinks with the
keyword “unlimited backlinks” in them and I got ranked for
that keyword.
This is why building backlinks is so critical for getting free
traffic and ranking with SEO.
Are backlinks still effective on page
rank 0 websites?
Yes, but they’re not as effective as a Page Rank 9 or a Page
Rank 6 .edu backlink linking to your site.
They still work, but you will need many of them to pull your
website higher in the search engines.
And as a side note: EVERY website starts out as a Page
Rank 0.
If the person owning a website that jumps to a Page Rank 5
in three months and you were already linked to it, then the
search engines will give your website even more pull thanks
to their increased Page Rank.
It’s simply much more effective and easier to link to a
website that already has that strong pull you can use for
your rankings.
What is anchor text?
This is an anchor text:
Dario
This is another anchor text:
Best Backlinks Ever
It’s simply a word or group of words that are clickable links
that lead to a web page.
Use anchor text backlinks to rank higher for keywords on the
search engines.
For example, I want people to find my website when they
type in “Dario” on the search engines.
So I use the first anchor text link above as my backlink so
my website will rank higher for that keyword.
It really is that easy. 
What does “dofollow” mean?
When creating a backlink on a webpage with HTML it looks
like this:
© 2010 ALL RIGHTS RESERVED
http://www.ebook-store.eu/
And Your
Keyword Here

The code above is essentially “dofollow” which means search
engine spiders will crawl the website where that link is
placed and give importance to that link by giving it some link
juice.
“Dofollow” links are readable by search engines and give you
a higher ranking with more links that are placed throughout
the internet.
A “nofollow” HTML code will look like this:
And Your Keyword Here
The only difference between “dofollow” and “nofollow” is the
“rel=”nofollow”” code in the HTML.
Do “nofollow” links still help in ranking
my website?
Some will probably debate with me on this, but in all
honestly I do believe they help in your overall SEO ranking.
I have heard others claim they’ve done tests on this and
they’ve both provided completely opposite answers.
Can you believe that?
Someone said it best when they said this:
A backlink is a backlink!
Google and other major search engines will still see your
backlink whether it’s from a “nofollow” or “dofollow” link.
It may even look unnatural to search engines to have every
single one of your backlinks as “dofollow”.
My advice: Just keep building backlinks to your sites and
don’t stress yourself out too much over whether links are
“nofollow” or “dofollow”.
If no posts are made but the profile is
edited, will it still show as a backlink?
Yes, as long as any page of the website is viewable and
indexed by the search engines it will count as a valid
backlink that will rank your website higher, and that includes
edited profiles with your backlink on them.
How come the backlinks that are built
not showing up on my backlinks
checkers?
This is still a mystery to me but it really doesn’t matter if
they show up on any various backlink checkers or not.
Many companies and people experienced with SEO will all
tell you that not every single one of their links show up on
Yahoo! Site Explorer, Google Backlink Checker Tool, SEO
Elite, SEO Quake (a must have and it’s free) or any other
backlinks checkers.
And you know what?
IT DOESN’T MATTER ANYWAY!
What’s more important are the RESULTS you’re getting from
building backlinks.
You’ve probably checked and double checked the amount of
backlinks these tools are counting going to your website,
and you’ve probably seen your search engine rankings
steadily getting closer to the top.
Once again, what’s more important are the RESULTS.
Not every backlink you build to your website will be trackable
with these systems, just keep building backlinks and let
the results speak for themselves.
Will Google penalize me if I build
backlinks too fast?
Again, many will debate with me on this but this is a
FALLACY.
The only way I can see this happening is if HUNDREDS of
THOUSANDS of the same kinds of backlinks are pointing to a
website in a short period of time.
Picture this:
Imagine getting first hand information on the latest breaking
news that the world hasn’t even heard yet about the United
States President Barack Obama.
You use that information and create a simple blog post
showing how factual the information is.
You publish that blog post then submit it to a few social
bookmarking sites such as Digg, Technorati and
StumbleUpon.
What happens next is even crazier…
Thousands of people start “digging” and “stumbling” your
blog post, re-tweeting it to all of their followers who then retweet
to more of their followers, and then big news agencies
pick up on your blog post and start linking to your website.
In a matter of a few days with one simple blog post you
have THOUSANDS of backlinks going back to your site with
the original information about the President of the United
States.
Do you think Google is going to penalize your website for
getting thousands of high quality authority backlinks going
to your website?
HECK NO!
They’re going to view your website as important and in all
likely rank your blog post even higher!
You can’t control how many outside sources are going to link
to you, Google knows and understands this.
A deeper insight into this is answered on the next question
below…
A quick side note about Link Farms:
My advice is to stay away from them and DO NOT ever
place ‘hidden links’ on your websites unless you do want
your website to get banned from search engines.
An example of ‘hidden links’ is using this HTML code on your
any of your sites:
And Your Keyword
Do not use this!
How many links should I build to my
website each day?
In short: as many as you can.
Referring to the second question above, some will have you
believe that you’ll be “banned” or “penalized” by Google
building too many links.
Some seem to think there’s some kind of secret “rogue”
group in a dark underground room waiting for internet users
to catapult to the top of search engines and cause all kinds
of hectic and mayhem on the internet and are waiting to
shut them down… wait, on second thought, there probably
is.
But I bet it’s not a search engine.
One of the best ways to defer from being banned by any
search engines is by varying the kind of backlinks you’re
building back to your website.
If you all of a sudden have 100,000 blog posts on the same
website, or 500,000 articles were just submitted to ONE of
any popular article directories and all have the SAME anchor
text backlink going to your website, then yes, obviously
you’re going to attract a negative reaction.
This is obviously an extreme example.
But say you have 500 articles and you then have each of
those articles submitted into a service like SEO Link Vine
which then blasts each of your articles onto a network where
each of your articles is accepted onto different websites from
all over the world.
Each one of your backlinks will show up on different link
sources, from different IP addresses and all from different
webmasters.
THAT is more “natural” to the algorithms of the search
engines and you’re less likely to get banned from comparing
this with 10,000 forum posts showing up a day later with
your backlink attached to each one on the SAME website.
Build as many backlinks as you can build or outsource on a
consistent basis and be sure they come from different link
sources such as profiles, comments, articles, and social
bookmarking sites.
This method is one of the most “natural” looking to any of
the search engines.
Is it better to build backlinks on inner
pages of my website or directly to the
homepage of my domain?
It really depends on you.
I personally build backlinks both ways.
I’ve found that building backlinks directly to your domain
homepage “pulls” all other webpages on your domain higher
in the SERPS.
But if you want to target a specific keyword for a specific
page on your domain then you’d probably want to create
backlinks that will lift the page you want to rank for.
For example:
Say I have a blog post on my domain that looks like this:
www.MyDomain.com/blog-post
If you want this blog post to rank higher on the search
engines when someone types in “blog post” then by all
means you’d want to build anchor text backlinks just like
this:
Blog Post
Implementing this method on any of your webpages will
catapult the content you want to rank for any keyword you
choose.
The choice is yours.
But definitely keep building links directly to your domain
homepage, as it will help in your overall SEO rankings.

I was building backlinks for a keyword
and I was ranking for it, then I look
for it again and now it’s gone!? What
happened?
“I was just there on the third page for that keyword a week
after I started building backlinks to my site, I look again and
now it’s gone!
Damn it, I knew I shouldn’t have listened to this guy, now
I’m nowhere in site for my keyword!”
Don’t worry it’s not the end of the world.
Explanation: The “Google Dance”
This has happened to about EVERY single person I’ve talked
to who has built backlinks to their websites.
It’s happened to me numerous times.
As with any search engine optimization, patience and
consistency will pay off so you reap the rewards of your linkbuilding.
Your site will be right back up anywhere from a few hours to
a couple weeks.
Like always: just keep building your high quality backlinks
and you will see the results you want in due time.

Should I only build backlinks on
websites that are relevant to my
website?
Sure it’s great to have relevant backlinks that are on the
same topic as your website, the people that frequent that
website are more likely to click on your link and go to your
website, but is this the only means of getting ranked higher
for SEO?
The answer: absolutely not.
Not every one of the backlinks I use is related AT ALL to
“Internet Marketing” or “SEO” or “Backlinks” but does it hurt
my rankings on the search engines?
NOPE.
The dominating factor in determining your position on
search engines is the quality and quantity of your backlinks.
It doesn’t matter if the site you’re linking to is relevant or
not, what matters is the kind of website you are linking to.
.EDU, .GOV, and high page rank backlinks are the absolute
best backlinks ever, regardless of the relevance of the
content on your website. 

If I buy links for my websites would I
get banned by Google?
It depends on where you’re getting your links from.
You can buy hundreds of paid links across the entire
Internet from all kinds of different sources and Google won’t
be able to detect any of them in a negative way in their
algorithm.
With that said, again, it really depends on where you’re
getting your links from.
It is hard for Google to find out which links are paid for and
which are not, one of the more obvious ways of finding out
which links are paid for are reciprocal links.
Reciprocal links are basically links you trade with other
webmasters on their sites (or, “you link to me and I’ll link to
you” kind of links).
Doing this is on a massive or even minor scale gives search
engine algorithms clues to what you’re doing.
But, say you find a website that has a designated area with
text ad space for sale that charges a monthly fee and you
make a purchase lasting several months, it will be hard for
any algorithm to know if that link is paid or not.

Do I need to register my domain for
5+ years for better rankings on the
search engines?
In short: absolutely not!
Having your domain purchased for the next five or more
years may give your domain registration company a higher
profit but in no way does it affect your search engine
rankings.
And really, why should it matter anyway?
This is yet another fallacy about search engine optimization
that some would have you believe, don’t believe the hype.
In conclusion
I hope this answered some of the curious questions you’ve
had in mind about building backlinks and also destroyed a
few self-defeating myths about SEO.
These answers should give you a stronger perspective on
how you can achieve better SEO rankings for the short- and
long-term for your website.

  1. Backlinks are incoming links to your website. It’s simple really…you vote for a candidate that you fully support or find most interesting. Similarly, you link to websites (or anything for that matter) that you think gives great value. As an SEO specialist, backlinks are one of the things you strive for in order to outrank your competitors.
